Starshifter Symbiosis by Isabelle Fischer
Over the course of 2018, a select group of young writers was invited to take part in a year-long writing program at the Story Factory. Their goal was to produce not just a fistful of poems, or a story, or a script, but a fully realised novella. The volunteers working with our budding novelists were there not so much as tutors but as mentors and peers, offering help and support while writing a novella of their own. This is one of the novellas produced in these workshops.
Isabelle Fischer is 18 years old.

Nobody’s afternoons have gone quite as expected. It’s amazing, the trouble a few Christmas lights can cause.
Well, I guess it wouldn’t be fair to give them all the blame, as there were quite a few other factors involved as well. The wormholes did plenty of inconvenient things, and I guess the dragon also had its fair share of mischief making. Regardless of anyone’s intentions, there’s now a human trapped on a very dangerous planet, and a bunch of aliens trying to deal with their own personal problems whilst being battered around by the will of the universe.
There’s also this game with a hippo in it. It’s quite popular at the moment, but it’s probably just another fad.
