The Thing - by Bianca Valastro-Franco & Attempted - by Annan Ahmed
Over the course of 2017, a select group of young writers was invited to take part in a year-long writing program at the Sydney Story Factory. Their goal was to produce not just a fistful of poems, or a story, or a script, but a fully realised novella. The volunteers working with our budding novelists were there not so much as tutors but as mentors and peers, offering help and support while writing a novella of their own. This is one of the novellas produced in these workshops.
Bianca Valastro-Franco is 13 years old & Annan Ahmed is 14 years old.
Compact paperback publication (two novellas combined): 203 x 133 mm; 46 pages
Print ISBN: 978-0-6481778-5-2
The unique checked-pattern tape, otherwise known as police tape, was surrounding the graveyard. Crimes in this town were rare, in fact the last crime was fifteen years ago. Which was just a silly teenager stealing from the candy shop! Since there wasn’t much crime, no one wanted to be a police officer. So they’re just a bunch of old grumpy men directing traffic and asking people how their days are going. But this was different.
An ordinary father and son haunted by their past try to overcome the hardest challenges to survive. Stabbings, investigations, mystery, failure and revenge. Sadness and anger, overcome by happiness and relief. A must read.
